Your air conditioning system must be kept clean in order to cool your home or office efficiently. Dirt, grass, leaves, and dust can accumulate on the coils of your air conditioner causing it to work harder and wear out sooner.

The are a few simple procedures to follow to ensure your air conditioner is in shape and will keep you cool. The few steps described below should be performed at least twice a year, and it will take you no more that 20 minutes.

Locate your air conditioner unit and turn the power off.  Clean debris from the appliance. Trim the excess plant growth around the air conditioning system. Use garden hose to spray  from the top of the coils down. Be careful and avoid damaging coils as they are delicate.

Locate condensate drain line inside your home. Be sure to keep the drain line clean. Inspect around furnace for condensate leaks.

The furnace air filter must also be changed regularly in the air conditioning system. A dirty filter can increase energy costs and damage your appliance. Inspect, clean, or change air filters once a month in your central air conditioner.

Clean and adjust blower components to provide proper system airflow for greater comfort levels from your air conditioner.

The interior of the dishwasher doesn’t need to be cleaned if it is being used regularly. If it goes unused for a week or more then bad smell may emanate your dishwasher. Dishwasher cleaner and deodorizer can be used for this purpose. If you see many stains, clean with dishwasher detergent and water.

If you start noticing water around your dishwasher, check your gasket for cracks or deterioration. You may need to replace the refrigerator gasket, so take it to the hardware store to ensure your getting the right one.

If your dishwasher sprayer isn’t functioning properly, it might be clogged. Remove the sprayer, and soak it in warm white vinegar for a few hours to loosen mineral deposits. Then clean out each spray hole with an awl or a pipe cleaner.

If you notice rust on your dishes, check the dishwasher rack for nicks or scratches in the plastic finish.

If your dishwasher isn’t level, it could leak. To check, open the door, and place a level along the edge inside the dishwasher. If the dishwasher isn’t level, raise or lower either side by adjusting its feet.
